Key Objectives of DID

  1. Confirm the legal validity of digital forms of identification equal to physical forms of identification, such as physical passports.
  2. Create a legal gateway for trusted organizations to carry out verification checks against official data held by public bodies to help validate a person’s identity.
  3. Establish a robust and secure accreditation and certification process and trustmark to ensure organizations meet high security and privacy standards when using digital identities.
  4. Empower the Office for Digital Identities and Attributes (ODIA) to issue trustmarks to certified organizations, proving they meet security and privacy standards.
  5. Address the implications of the legislation on citizens’ privacy.
