This is one of several events happening in Europe at the time when we, Europeans, need to be more united than ever. In May, the EU will launch a two-year Future of Europe Conference to close the distance between EU citizens from EU policy makers.

It is that alienation that is thought to be one of the driving forces behind the rise of populism in Europe. Citizens are to play an active role in shaping the future of the EU through citizens’ assemblies.

Alongside the Future of Europe Conference, civil society organisations are coming together in many different ways to empower citizens and contribute to the success of the conference. For example, 40 civil society organisations came together in Milan in December at the invitation of the Italian European Movement to sign the Milan Declaration.

One of the initiatives backed by the Milan Declaration is the #EuropeFutureFringe. The #EuropeFutureFringe will mobilise events across a range of cultural, political, and social events and festivals, taking it’s inspiration from the wolrd-famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

One of the participating projects in the #EuropeFutureFringe is the European Caravan of Culture is. We are delighted that Ambassador Miha Pogačnik is with us in London to present the project and to discuss the role of art in uniting citizens across naitonal borders and shaping our European identity.

About New Europeans

New Europeans is an award-winning civil rights organisation based in Brussels and London. Since 2013, the organisation has been at the forefront of the fight for citizens’ rights post Brexit and is now working with partner organisations across Europe to build a Europe of the citizens, a Europe of equality and social justice, anchored in human rights.

About the Federal Trust

The Federal Trust is a research institute studying the interactions between regional, national, European and global levels of government. Founded in 1945 on the initiative of Sir William Beveridge, it has long made a powerful contribution to the study of federalism and federal systems.

About #Europefuturefringe

Europe Future Fringe will be a series of freely organised events celebrating our European identity running in parallel with the Future of Europe conference. It will allow civil society to occupy the “spaces in-between” the formal consultations organised by the EU institutions and give all who take part the opportunity to engage in a new conversation about Europe’s future.

About Sustensis

Sustensis is a Think Tank providing inspirations, suggestions and solutions for the period of Humanity’s transition to the time when it will coexist with Superintelligence. It proposes to support that process by reforming democracy based on new Universal Values of Humanity, promoting a planetary, rather than a national outlook, and evolving the most mature organisation, such as the European Union, into a Human Federation.
